It was decided back in 2007 to re-launch the junior section, but with a more structured approach, so that we could reassure parents that all the necessary precautions were being taken to ensure the safety and well being of their youngsters.
Four of our members,Allan Warrington, Stuart Metcalf, Gary and Neil Wright, acquired ADB level one coach status in 2010. In April 2011 Allan Warrington and Neil Wright became ADB level 2 coaches. This allowed the club, with all the relevant CRB checks, insurances and procedures in place to start structured coaching sessions.
These began in May 2011 at The Burrs, Bury on Monday nights and ran throughout the summer periods, weather and daylight permitting.
RAA juniors fished a number of competitions during 2011 and fared very well considering the length of time established. The coaching programme was continued on Crown Pools, Brandlesholme with continued interest from youngsters.
In July 2016, having successfully secured funding from Sport England (Inspired Facilities) we opened our long awaited classroom and base on the Clarence Park Lido. That summer 55 youngsters took part in the coaching programme and some matches with the club providing all the facilities for them to participate.
The following year, 2017, saw 88 youngsters take part in the programme, again with some participating in matches. Jake Pope won the National Cadet Championship in 2016 and 2017 (the first time anyone had achieved this). We are now looking forward to the 2018 programme and developing the club further.
