BURRS COUNTRY PARK LODGES AND RIVER IRWELL SECTION

Brief description of fishery:

There are two lakes here namely Burrs and Wheel Pit. They can be found along Woodhill Road and once you hit the cobbled road (50 yards after Hunstanton Drive) there is a carpark to your right. At the end of the car park and down the path the lakes can be found, Burrs to the left and wheel pit to the right.

If you want to access the river, head towards wheel pit which continues down to the river.

Burrs

Burrs was stocked in 2016 with numerous bream which have come on some since then along with Tench, Perch and Roach. There are quite a few pike in the lake from jacks to a good size. There is a female pike with one eye known locally as PATCH! Fishing is restricted to the pegs for the time being. On the lake there is an island to one side with a large over hanging tree and this is normally the favoured peg. However, if it’s the bream you want to target. You may want to look at the middle pegs as that’s where there normally caught.

The Lake is part of the Burrs countryside and is covered by our Bailiff and Countryside Wardens. You will get a few walkers passing you whist fishing the lake, so do try and keep your pegs tidy and pathways free for people to pass.

There are brand new pegs to one side which are of great quality and assist with disabled access to fish from which were kindly installed by Bury Council. We think they look absolutely great on the water and a much needed investment on the lake. Making it safer for anglers and walkers / duck feeders to use.

You can also fish along side the River Irwell at the park if you want to try your hand at river fishing. Here you can find Roach, Chub, Trout, Grayling and Dace,

Best baits have been worm, maggot and pinkie.

No Live baiting. No treble hooks. No fires. Take all litter home with you.
