SCHOLES YARD

Brief description of fishery:
This is a recently acquired water to Ramsbottom Angling Association from the former Tottington anglers club which joined up with Ramsbottom Angling Association. The water is a premium water and is secured all round the water. The water can be accessed by keys to the gates. There is a carpark located at the top of the lake (via locked gate) and a further larger carpark to the bottom of the lake. (locked gate between the buildings).

When fishing PLEASE keep the gates locked at all times to ensure the lake security and for your enjoyment of peaceful fishing on the lake.

The lake ranges in depths from around 6 ft deep to 14 ft deep at the bottom end of the lake. It currently has a good head of lilies around the lake which are constantly being maintained to restrict their growth. This will take some time to resolve, however the fish seem to love them and are regularly seen and caught by them.

The lake has undergone some recent work with all the pegs being replaced with new pegs in composite rather than wood and all have been put to the same height around the lake to make the lake look more pleasing. The trees have all been cut back and the paths have been scraped and flattened to make walking round easier, especially with your barrows. There will be floating islands being added along with margin features in time to come. This is still a working progress to make the lake come to life again.

There is a double peg at the bottom corner of the lake next to the chimney for the ones that take the little one fishing with them, or to teach them the art of fishing. You will notice that the pegs to one side of the lake are quite large for those that take lots of tackle.  There are two safety floating rings around the lake should somebody need them.

If you catch something decent in Scholes Yard please send us a photograph of it. Along with any weight if you weighed it. Were very interested on how it’s been fishing and the stocks in there, so your updates are very important to us and the stocking of the lake. No updates = No Stocking.

  • In 2023 we had 96 members having Scholes Yard as part of there membership.
  • In 2024 this went up to 120+ members having Scholes Yard as part of there membership.
  • In 2025 we are hoping that this continues to increase with further people taking Scholes Yard as part of there        membership due to the work and stocking we have done to the lake.
